Sense of Water

The exhibition Sense of Water explores the human relationship with water, and how knowledge, emotions, and actions shape our sense of water. The exhibition brings together art, design, science, and personal experiences. It features works, projects, and initiatives that address, among other themes, the care of water and the impact of plastics on aquatic environments. The overall presentation invites visitors to reflect on their own relationship with water.

“In Finland, we are accustomed to an abundance of water, but environmental changes are challenging our everyday relationship with water in new ways. This makes caring for water increasingly important. In this shift, each person’s individual relationship with water plays a significant role.” — Riikka Latva-Somppi, curator of the Veden taju exhibition.

The main exhibition curated by Luovi unfolds across all three floors of Viljamakasiini. Sense of Water is located on the top floor. The middle floor is taken over by Material Flow, an exhibition featuring works by students from Aalto University. On the ground floor, the Biennale Shop presents a curated selection of contemporary Finnish design and craft. The exhibitions are accompanied by a parallel programme including talks, workshops, and artist meetings.
