CONCEALMENTS / Tuulia Penttilä

How do hiding and concealment manifest in our daily lives? And how do they compare to similar behaviors in other species? These are the questions we are invited to reflect upon in Tuulia Penttilä’s upcoming exhibition, opening this August.

The exhibition explores the themes of hiding and concealment from both human and non-human perspectives. After all, we share the same habitats, needs, and characteristics. These comparisons offer new perspectives on our interconnectedness. The allure of a hidden space—coupled with the curiosity to peek inside—takes many forms across environments inhabited by humans, birds, and insects alike. Bringing together artworks and objects that conceal another, more private space within or behind them, the exhibition invites us to contemplate the hierarchy of interspecies relations and the very essence of hiding.
