Paintings and Music

Viktor Khachtchanski is a painter and media artist whose work explores the connection between visual art and music. Inspired by the theories of Wassily Kandinsky—specifically the landmark text Concerning the Spiritual in Art—Khachtchanski has developed custom software that translates images into musical compositions back in 2012.
His paintings, together with the music generated from them, were featured at Kunsthalle Helsinki in the summer of 2025 as part of the Summer Rain exhibition. There is a new opportunity to experience his artistic world during the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale 2026. As part of the Biennale’s Parallel Programme, the artist will open his studio to the public.
Visitors are also invited to participate in a hands-on workshop, offering an introduction to the process of uncovering sound within visual compositions.
